Hello Lincoln Families,
The reading and math NWEA and the EBLI spelling, and writing testing will continue this week since we were unable to finish. The testing dates are below. Please consider making appointments after 3:00 on these school days, especially this next week. Thank you for your consideration and support.
Just a reminder the Kindness Party will be on February 14th from 2:00-3:00. I reached out to the committee who signed up to organize snacks/treats. However, if you have a special treat you would like to send in you are more than welcome. We have no food allergies. If you decide you want to send in treats, you can send them in with your child the day before or the day of the party. This party will be similar to the holiday party in December. We will have snacks and students can distribute Valentine's cards if they want to. Click on this link for student names for Valentine's cards. We will not need parents to come in.

In the classroom: I encourage you to ask your child what's going on in the classroom. For example, What EBLI strategy are you learning? What are you learning in math?
Reading: Our reading strategy focus will be looking for the main idea of non-fiction and fiction passages and books using EBLI strategies. I am working on what reading strategies and goals each student needs. These strategies are intended to be added to their "reading tool kit". These mini-lessons are used as a focus for many reading strategies. It's possible to use more than one reading strategy at a time. These strategies cover comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and expanding vocabulary. What is EBLI?
We are currently reading aloud and in small groups, Harriet Tubman, Conductor on the Underground Railroad. This is a true story explaining her bravery and overcoming every obstacle. We focus on vocabulary, spelling, writing main idea summaries, and comprehension questions. We are also reading Towers Falling. This a historical fiction story based on the character Deja who learns about who she is and what happened on September 11, 2001. We focus on vocabulary, spelling, writing summaries, and comprehension questions. Students continue to do their at-home reading. When they are finished with the bookmark, they need to write a main idea summary as well as a theme if the book is non-fiction.
Math: Student took unit 4 math assessment on Friday. So look for them to come home. If your child received anything below a 3, then extra practice at home can be done on IXL. We will begin Unit 5 this week!

Science: Our next science unit is Waves of Sound. This will begin sometime in late January.
Social Studies: We have begun Unit 3 Human Geography in the United States. In this unit, students explore the United States through the lens of human geography with a focus on the themes of movement and human/environment interaction. Using literature and primary sources, they study the push and pull factors of migration and the influence of migration on culture within the United States. Through both historical and current examples students explore ways people have used, adapted to, and modified various environments in the U.S. They deepen their understanding of human-environment interactions by assessing positive and negative effects of human activities on the physical environment. Returning again to historical examples, students explore ways in which geography can be used to interpret history. Finally, students will research and write an informational essay on a historical event.
The Positivity Project focus this week is Appreciation of Kindness.
