Hello Lincoln Families,

Thank you for participating in your child's spring student-led conference! Whether you came in for a face-to-face or your child presented at home, it's a perfect time of the year to celebrate as well as revisit learning goals and make adjustments where needed. Remember when your child presents at home, email me so he/she can receive a touchdown! Report cards will be going home the week of March 4th. In the classroom, we are doing many assessments in reading, math, and science. These will be coming home by the end of the week.

Read In: Friday, March 1st is the beginning of March Reading Month! This Friday we will begin the celebration with a Read-In. Students can wear their P.J.s, bring a snack and clear drink, and lots of their favorite books! Be sure to scroll down to see the dress-up dates for March 4th -8th. Have a fantastic week!

In the classroom: students will research and write an informational essay on a historical event. I encourage you to ask your child which historical event they are going to choose!

Reading: Our reading strategy focus will be looking for the main idea of non-fiction and fiction passages and books using EBLI strategies.  I am working on what reading strategies and goals each student needs. These strategies are intended to be added to their "reading tool kit". These mini-lessons are used as a focus for many reading strategies. It's possible to use more than one reading strategy at a time. These strategies cover comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and expanding vocabulary. What is EBLI?

Math: We will begin unit 6 this week. Students multiply and divide multi-digit whole numbers using partial products and partial quotients strategies, and apply this understanding to solve multi-step problems using the four operations.

Social Studies: Unit 3 Human Geography in the United States. In this unit, students explore the United States through the lens of human geography, focusing on the themes of movement and human/environment interaction. Using literature and primary sources, they study the push and pull factors of migration and the influence of migration on culture within the United States. Through both historical and current examples students explore ways people have used, adapted to, and modified various environments in the U.S. They deepen their understanding of human-environment interactions by assessing positive and negative effects of human activities on the physical environment. Returning again to historical examples, students explore ways in which geography can be used to interpret history. Finally, students will research and write an informational essay on a historical event.

The Positivity Project focus this week is Humor.

Snacks in the Classroom

Please make sure that everyday snacks are quick and easy for your child to handle. For example please no yogurt, pudding, uncut fruit, or messy items for daily snacks, including sandwiches. This avoids spilling on school devices, furniture, new carpet, etc. These food items work better in the lunchroom. Because the 4th grade has a fast-paced curriculum, snack time is a quick break, not a meal. Thank you for your understanding.

Birthdays

We love to celebrate birthdays! For students who would like to celebrate birthdays in our class please bring in non-food items, for example instead of cupcakes maybe pencils. Sometimes parents put together little gift bags. These are just ideas. There is no obligation to send anything!
