In the classroom: students will research and write an informational essay on a historical event. I encourage you to ask your child which historical event they are learning about.
Reading: Our reading strategy focus will be looking for the main idea of non-fiction and fiction passages and books using EBLI strategies. I am working on what reading strategies and goals each student needs. These strategies are intended to be added to their "reading tool kit". These mini-lessons are used as a focus for many reading strategies. It's possible to use more than one reading strategy at a time. These strategies cover comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and expanding vocabulary. What is EBLI?
Math: Unit 6: Students multiply and divide multi-digit whole numbers using partial products and partial quotients strategies, and apply this understanding to solve multi-step problems using the four operations.

Science: Energizing Everything will be our last science unit. We will begin after spring break.
Social Studies: Our Federal Government will be our next unit. This will begin after spring break. Currently, we are integrating social studies, research, and informational 5-paragraph (with thesis) essay writing and reading (EBLI too:) This is a long process for nine and ten-year-olds. I encourage you to ask your child what historical event they are researching and any interesting information they have found so far!
Unit 3 Human Geography in the United States. In this unit, students explore the United States through the lens of human geography, focusing on the themes of movement and human/environment interaction. Using literature and primary sources, they study the push and pull factors of migration and the influence of migration on culture within the United States. Through historical and current examples, students explore ways people have used, adapted to, and modified various environments in the U.S. They deepen their understanding of human-environment interactions by assessing the positive and negative effects of human activities on the physical environment. Returning to historical examples, students explore ways in which geography can be used to interpret history. Finally, students will research and write an informational essay on a historical event.
